Top Control Valve Manufacturers in the World

A researched global shortlist for instrumentation, process and EPC engineers — with OEM ownership, specialist portfolios, product strengths and vendor-selection checkpoints.

ACTUATORPOSITIONERVALVE BODY + TRIM

Top control valve manufacturers are not all alike. Some offer a wide range of valves for many process industries. Others focus on a particular duty, such as steam control, anti-surge service, slurry handling or high-pressure applications. This 2027 WOIN guide helps engineers compare those suppliers by product range and application strength.

In a process plant, a control valve changes its opening to regulate flow, pressure, temperature or liquid level. For that reason, the right choice depends on more than the brand name. Engineers must also check the valve body, trim, actuator, positioner, test records and local service support.

Top control valve manufacturers for severe service: Mokveld axial control valve installed in process piping

This updated guide revisits the suppliers in the original WOIN article. It also adds global OEMs and specialist manufacturers that publish genuine control-valve product ranges. In addition, it explains important changes in company ownership and brand names.

How to read this list

This is an engineering shortlist, not a market-share ranking. There is no single public ranking that compares every control-valve maker across all regions and applications. Instead, the list groups suppliers by their published products and areas of focus. Some companies offer a broad range; others serve a narrower but important duty. Always check the exact model, factory, certificates and project approval status before you specify or buy a valve.

01Quick comparison

Leading Control Valve Manufacturers — At a Glance

Use this table to create an initial vendor shortlist. The “portfolio emphasis” column summarises the product families shown on each company’s website. However, it does not replace a current datasheet or written application review. In practice, the offered model and trim matter more than a brand name alone.

Top control valve manufacturers: how to read the comparison

First, identify the valve design and service that your project needs. Next, compare the suppliers that publish a matching product range. Then confirm the model, size, pressure class, materials and support location with the manufacturer.

What this supplier comparison does not rank

The table does not score price, market share, quality or installed base. Instead, it shows where each company may be worth considering. For example, a specialist axial-valve supplier is not a direct substitute for every general-service globe-valve OEM. Use a list of top control valve manufacturers as a starting point for research, not as a final approval list.

02Global manufacturer profiles

Top control valve manufacturers in the world

How the top control valve manufacturers are grouped

The profiles include suppliers from the original WOIN article and additional companies found during an independent product review. They appear in no particular order. In addition, the list separates large process-control OEMs from specialists in axial, steam, hygienic and severe-service applications. Each company must publish a real control-valve range to be included. However, not every supplier competes in every size, pressure class or industry. This distinction helps readers compare the top control valve manufacturers with specialist suppliers on a fair basis.

Editorial selection method

We checked official product pages, product documents, company ownership and stated application markets. We did not invent market-share scores or a global rank. Where brands belong to one parent group, they are shown together. We also left out distributors, actuator-only suppliers and companies whose main products are isolation or safety valves.

03Important distinctions

Control Valve Manufacturer vs. Actuator or Automation Supplier

Understand each supplier’s role in the package

Vendor lists often mix control-valve makers with actuator makers, positioner suppliers, automation companies and distributors. These suppliers may all be part of one valve package. However, they do not all make the pressure-containing valve body and trim.

Supplier categoryWhat it typically providesWhat to confirm in the requisition
Control valve OEMValve body, trim, design engineering, sizing and testingManufacturer of record, series, manufacturing site, design and test standards
Actuator OEMPneumatic, electric or hydraulic actuator and controlsActuator model, thrust / torque, fail action, duty rating and interfaces
Positioner / instrument OEMValve positioner, feedback, diagnostics and accessoriesInput signal, protocol, hazardous-area approval, SIL suitability where specified
Distributor / service partnerLocal supply, commissioning, spares, repair and supportCurrent written OEM authorization, territory, product scope and warranty

A complete control-valve package can involve more than one manufacturer. Therefore, the technical bid evaluation should identify each party’s scope.

Common procurement mistake

Do not assume that an actuator brand or authorised distributor made the control valve. Instead, state each party’s responsibility in the purchase requisition and technical bid evaluation. Include valve design, body and trim manufacture, actuator sizing, positioner supply, assembly, testing and after-sales support.

04Engineering selection

How to Select the Right Control Valve Manufacturer for an EPC Project

A well-known name does not guarantee that a valve suits the service. First, confirm the process requirement. Then review the full valve assembly and the supplier’s ability to design, manufacture, test and support it.

Start with the process data and operating cases

  1. Freeze the process design basis. Confirm minimum, normal and maximum flow cases; inlet and outlet pressures; temperature; fluid composition; density / molecular weight; vapour pressure; viscosity; operating modes and credible upset cases. Reconcile the datasheet with the latest process data and line list.
  2. Review sizing and controllability. Check calculated Cv or Kv, selected rated capacity, valve travel at minimum / normal / maximum flow, rangeability, inherent characteristic and installed performance. Confirm the sizing method and assumptions against the project specification and applicable edition of IEC 60534 / ISA 75.01.01.
  3. Identify the actual valve problem to be solved. Assess choked flow, cavitation, flashing, aerodynamic or hydrodynamic noise, vibration, erosion, corrosion, solids and two-phase flow. Select standard or special trim based on the calculation and application review, not on a generic product description.
  4. Check materials and pressure-temperature limits. Verify body, bonnet, trim, stem, packing, gasket and bolting materials against process corrosion, erosion, temperature, pressure class and piping material requirements. Confirm sour-service, oxygen, hydrogen or other special requirements when applicable.
  5. Verify actuator sizing and failure action. Confirm fail-open, fail-close or fail-in-place requirement; available instrument-air pressure; shutoff differential pressure; required thrust / torque; spring range; stroking time; and mechanical limits. Use minimum available air pressure for the relevant sizing check.
  6. Review positioner and accessories. Confirm 4–20 mA, HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, PROFIBUS or other project-required interfaces; hazardous-area certification; enclosure rating; feedback; solenoid valves; limit switches; air filter regulators; boosters and volume tanks as applicable.
  7. Verify leakage, emissions and testing requirements. Confirm seat-leakage class, fugitive-emission requirements, fire-safe requirements if applicable, pressure testing, functional testing, material traceability, inspection and FAT scope. Do not assume a certification applies to every size, trim or valve configuration.
  8. Evaluate lifecycle support. Check local service capability, trained technicians, spare-parts availability, repair turnaround, installed-base references, calibration / diagnostic tools and support for the specific model and manufacturing site.

Use this checklist during technical bid evaluation

  • Technical compliance: offered valve meets the requisition, datasheet, line class, design code and project specifications.
  • Capacity and travel: selected Cv or Kv is supported by sizing calculations for all required operating cases.
  • Special trim: noise, cavitation, flashing, erosion and high pressure-drop cases are addressed with documented calculations and design details.
  • Actuator adequacy: thrust / torque and fail action are confirmed at the project-defined minimum and maximum supply conditions.
  • Instrumentation compatibility: positioner protocols, hazardous-area approvals, accessories and control-system interfaces are compliant.
  • Quality and documentation: ITP, QAP, certificates, inspection records, test reports, drawings, datasheets and O&M manuals are defined.
  • Supply-chain traceability: manufacturing location, subcontractors, country of origin and any local assembly / testing scope are declared.
  • Lifecycle support: warranty, commissioning, spares, repair capability and regional service contacts are confirmed.
Practical EPC tip

For a critical valve, evaluate the offered valve series and trim configuration rather than approving the supplier name alone. Two valves from the same manufacturer can have very different suitability depending on body style, trim, materials, actuator and application-specific options.

05Technical fundamentals

What Makes a Control Valve Suitable for a Process?

A control valve is a pressure-containing assembly whose function is to manipulate flow in response to a control signal. A typical assembly contains a valve body and trim, actuator, and often a valve positioner with accessories. It is selected to deliver the required capacity and controllability while meeting mechanical integrity, leakage and lifecycle requirements.

Control valve vs. pressure safety valve

A modulating control valve changes its opening to regulate a process variable. By contrast, a pressure safety valve (PSV) opens at a set pressure to protect equipment from overpressure. These devices have different jobs. Therefore, do not describe a control valve as a safety-relief valve unless a separate, approved protective function has been designed.

What is Cv?

Valve flow coefficient, Cv, is the number of US gallons of water at 60 °F that pass through a valve per minute with a pressure drop of 1 psi under the defined reference conditions. The metric flow coefficient is commonly expressed as Kv, in cubic metres per hour for water with a pressure drop of 1 bar, using the applicable standard definition. Do not compare Cv and Kv numerically without conversion and consistent conditions.

06Standards and references

Standards and Technical Documents to Check

Main standards for industrial control valves

Project specifications and applicable editions take precedence. For example, IEC 60534 and ISA 75 cover several sizing and performance topics. However, the exact scope and edition must match the project code list.

Standard / referenceTypical topicEngineering use
IEC 60534 seriesIndustrial-process control valvesTerminology, sizing equations, testing, dimensions, noise and performance topics across relevant parts
ISA 75 seriesControl-valve standards and practicesCommonly referenced alongside IEC 60534 for sizing, capacity, testing and installation dimensions

ISO 15848Industrial valves — fugitive emissionsUse where the project specifies fugitive-emission qualification / testing
Project specificationsMaterial, inspection, testing, actuator, positioner and documentation requirementsDefine the contractual acceptance basis and any additional requirements

Always verify current editions, amendments and the adopted project code list before applying a standard.

07Questions engineers ask

Frequently Asked Questions

Brand ownership and supplier relationships

Are Fisher and Emerson the same company?

Fisher is a control-valve brand within Emerson’s Final Control portfolio. In practice, use current Emerson product documents when reviewing a Fisher offer. Also confirm the actual manufacturing location and supplying entity.

Is Masoneilan part of KSB MIL?

No. Masoneilan is a Baker Hughes control-valve brand. By contrast, KSB MIL Controls Limited is a subsidiary of KSB. KSB notes that MIL Controls originally operated as Masoneilan Valves India Limited, but the current MIL business belongs to KSB. Therefore, treat the present-day companies and brands separately.

Is Severn Glocon still an independent company?

Valmet completed its acquisition of Severn Group on 1 July 2026. As a result, Severn Glocon is now part of Valmet’s expanded flow-control portfolio. Check the current legal entity and sales channel on project documents.

Is Kent Introl part of KOSO?

Yes. Kent Introl’s official company information states that it is part of the Nihon KOSO Group. Similarly, its specialist range includes control valves, choke valves and subsea solutions.

Technical selection and specialist applications

Which control valve manufacturer is best for severe service?

There is no single best supplier for every severe-service duty. Instead, compare the trim design, pressure-reduction stages, noise and cavitation calculations, materials, actuator sizing and test evidence. Also review references for the same type of fluid and operating range. IMI CCI, Masoneilan, Valtek, KSB MIL, Kent Introl and Valmet / Severn Glocon all publish specialist products, but suitability still depends on the exact service.

What should be checked before approving a control valve vendor?

Before approval, review technical compliance, sizing calculations, the selected valve series and trim, material compatibility, actuator thrust / torque, fail action, positioner and accessories. Also check leakage class, certificates, inspection and test documents, manufacturing location, warranty and local service support.

Does the largest control valve manufacturer always offer the best technical solution?

No. A global manufacturer may offer broad support and product coverage. However, a specialist may have deeper experience in a narrow application. Therefore, size and select the valve for the process, then check that the offered configuration meets the project specification.

Why are Mokveld, SchuF and other specialist manufacturers included?

These companies publish real control-valve ranges, but their strongest applications differ. For example, Mokveld focuses on axial control, anti-surge and choke valves; Bray on rotary and slurry control valves; and Copes-Vulcan on severe-duty and steam-conditioning services. Trillium publishes globe and butterfly control valves, while SchuF focuses on severe-process duties. Similarly, Spirax Sarco and GESTRA cover steam and process-fluid control, Schubert & Salzer offers industrial valve technologies, ARI publishes STEVI control valves, and Bürkert focuses on compact process-control valves. Evaluate each supplier against the actual service rather than treating them as identical alternatives to large global OEMs.

Why are ARCA and Forbes Marshall ARCA shown as one entry?

Forbes Marshall ARCA is a regional joint-venture offering connected to ARCA Regler GmbH. Therefore, it is useful to show the India-specific product and support route, but counting it as a separate global OEM alongside ARCA would overstate the number of independent manufacturer groups.

Manufacturer Sources and Research Method

How we checked the supplier list

Research note and limitations

This article is a practical vendor guide, not a complete list of every regional manufacturer. It does not rank companies by market share, revenue, installed base or quality. Official product pages confirm that a supplier publishes a product family. However, they do not prove that every model is approved for every project or suitable for every service. Before procurement, confirm the legal manufacturer, supplying entity, factory, datasheet revision, certificates and local support scope.

Final word

Choosing from the top control valve manufacturers is an engineering decision

The global control-valve market includes large process-automation groups and specialist manufacturers. Some focus on axial or rotary control, while others focus on steam, severe-service chemistry, sanitary processing, power or subsea applications. In this guide to top control valve manufacturers, related brands are grouped under their parent companies. The article also reflects Valmet’s 2026 purchase of Severn Group and includes specialist suppliers with published control-valve ranges. In short, this is a practical engineering shortlist rather than a popularity contest.

For an EPC project, do not choose a supplier only because it appears in a “top 10” list. First, confirm the process conditions and size the valve. Next, review the complete assembly and check its quality and certificates. Finally, make sure the supplier can support the equipment throughout its service life. This is a better way to shortlist top control valve manufacturers for a real project.
