This Privacy Policy explains what personal data World of Instrumentation (“WOIN,” “we,” “us,” or “our“) collects from visitors worldwide, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it.
1. Who We Are
WOIN is operated by Kishan Mendapara as an independent instrumentation and automation publication. For any privacy question, request, or concern, you can reach us directly — see Section 13.
2. What Personal Data We Collect
a. Comments
When you leave a comment, we collect the data shown in the comment form (name, email address, website, and comment text), plus your IP address and browser user-agent string, which help with spam detection.
An anonymized hash of your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service (operated by Automattic) to check whether you have a Gravatar profile picture. See Automattic’s privacy policy: https://automattic.com/privacy/. If your comment is approved, your Gravatar profile picture becomes publicly visible alongside it.
b. Media Uploads
If you upload images to the site, be aware that images can contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors who download images from the site can extract this data. We recommend avoiding uploads of images with embedded location data.
c. Contact Forms
If our site includes a contact form, information you submit (such as your name, email address, and message) is used only to respond to your inquiry, and is not used for unrelated marketing without your separate consent.
d. Cookies
- Comment cookies: If you leave a comment, you may opt in to save your name, email, and website in a cookie for convenience on future comments. These last one year.
- Login cookies (if you have an account): A temporary cookie checks whether your browser accepts cookies (no personal data, discarded on browser close). Login cookies last two days (two weeks if you select “Remember Me”), and screen-display-option cookies last one year. These are removed when you log out.
- Post-edit cookie: If you edit or publish an article, a cookie storing only the post ID is set. It contains no personal data and expires after one day.
e. Analytics and Site Performance Tools
We may use website analytics or search-performance tools (for example, Google Search Console, Google Analytics, or similar third-party platforms) to understand aggregate traffic patterns. Where these tools are active, they may set their own cookies or collect data such as approximate location (city/country level), device/browser type, and pages visited — generally in aggregated or pseudonymized form. We do not use these tools to build individual profiles for advertising purposes.
f. Embedded Content from Other Websites
Articles on WOIN may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, or posts from other sites). Embedded content behaves exactly as if you visited the other website directly — it may collect data about you, use its own cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that content, including if you’re logged into that other site.
g. Caching and CDN (LiteSpeed Cache / QUIC.cloud)
This site uses the LiteSpeed Cache plugin to serve pages faster. Caching may temporarily store a duplicate copy of pages on this site; cache files are temporary, expire on a set schedule (or are purged manually), and are not accessed by third parties except as needed for technical support from the plugin vendor. We may use QUIC.cloud services to process and cache data temporarily as part of this — see https://quic.cloud/privacy-policy/ for details.
3. Why We Collect This Data (Purposes)
We process personal data to: operate and secure comment functionality; detect and prevent spam and abuse; respond to inquiries submitted via contact forms; understand aggregate site usage to improve content; and deliver pages efficiently via caching/CDN infrastructure. Where required by applicable law (such as the EU/UK GDPR or India’s DPDPA), our legal basis is your consent (e.g., opting in to comment cookies), our legitimate interest (e.g., spam prevention, site performance, aggregate analytics), or compliance with a legal obligation.
4. Who We Share Data With
We do not sell your personal data. We may share limited data with:
- Automattic/Gravatar — to check for and display a Gravatar profile picture alongside approved comments.
- Automated spam-detection services (e.g., an anti-spam plugin) — to screen incoming comments.
- Our hosting provider and QUIC.cloud — as part of standard hosting and content-delivery infrastructure.
- Analytics or SEO tooling, if and when in use — generally on an aggregated basis.
- Legal or regulatory authorities, only where required to comply with a legal obligation, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of WOIN or others.
5. International Data Transfers
Because WOIN uses global hosting/CDN infrastructure (including QUIC.cloud), your data may be processed on servers located outside your own country, including in India where the site is operated from. Where applicable law requires additional safeguards for such transfers (for example, under the GDPR), we rely on the mechanisms made available by our service providers (such as standard contractual clauses).
6. How Long We Keep Your Data
- Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely, so we can recognize and auto-approve your follow-up comments instead of holding them for moderation. You may request erasure at any time (Section 8).
- Cookies are retained for the durations listed in Section 2(d).
- Registered user accounts (if applicable): profile information is retained while the account is active; users can view, edit, or delete their own information (except username) at any time; administrators can also view and edit this information.
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over your personal data. To exercise any of them, contact us (Section 13).
If you are in the EU/UK (GDPR): the right to access, correct, or erase your data; restrict or object to processing; data portability; withdraw consent at any time; and lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
If you are in India (Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023): the right to access information about how your data is processed; request correction or erasure; withdraw consent; and raise a grievance directly with us as the data fiduciary. Note: the DPDPA’s substantive compliance obligations are being phased in by the Indian government through May 2027 — we intend for WOIN’s practices to already align with the Act’s principles ahead of full enforcement.
If you are in California or another U.S. state with a privacy law: the right to know what personal data we hold about you, and to request its deletion. We do not sell or “share” personal data as defined under such laws.
Regardless of location: if you’ve left a comment or hold an account, you can request an export of the personal data we hold about you, or request that we erase it — except where we’re legally required to retain it (e.g., for security or administrative purposes).
8. How to Exercise Your Rights
Email us at the address in Section 13 with your request. We will respond within a reasonable time and may need to verify your identity (e.g., confirm the email address associated with a comment) before acting on the request.
9. Children’s Privacy
WOIN is a technical/professional publication and is not directed at, nor knowingly collecting personal data from, children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.
10. Data Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the data we hold — including HTTPS encryption in transit, restricted administrative access, and reputable hosting/CDN infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Data Breach Response
In the event of a personal data breach, we will take reasonable steps to contain and assess it, and will notify affected individuals and the relevant regulator(s) — such as the Data Protection Board of India or an applicable EU/UK supervisory authority — where required by applicable law and within the statutory timeframe.
12. Automated Decision-Making
WOIN does not use personal data for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you.
