In this article, you will find how you can Troubleshoot the pressure transmitter with each problem and its solutions.

Introduction

Hello everyone. We are going to start a new series of articles in which we will discuss maintenance jobs.

In this series, we will take all instruments one by one and we will see the problems coming in them and how to solve them.

Today in this article we are going to focus on pressure transmitters (it can be normal pressure transmitters or differential pressure transmitters. So, let us begin.

You will receive many problem statements from the operation department regarding issues with the pressure transmitter. You will find almost each and every problem statement in this article and their solution.

Troubleshoot Pressure transmitter

>Problem: Pressure transmitter showing Zero Value

Solutions:

  • Check the condition of the process isolation valve. It might be close. Open it if found closed.
  • Check the condition of the isolation valves in the manifold. Isolation valves should be open and equalization should be closed.
  • The vent port might be missing. Install the vent port if it is not present.
  • The tube might choke. De-choke it and flush it properly.
  • The transmitter can be in forced condition from the field or DCS/PLC/SCADA. Remove the force.
  • The pressure transmitter can be in the power of condition. Check the power supply. If the power supply is not present then check in the marshaling cabinet. Check the fuse and barrier in it. Change the fuse or barrier, whichever is faulty.
  • The pressure transmitter might be faulty. Replace it and do the necessary configurations.

>Problem: Pressure transmitter showing low-value

Solutions:

  1. Check the condition of the process isolation valve. It might be throttled. Open it if found throttled.
  2. Check the condition of the isolation valves in the manifold. Isolation valves should be open and equalization should be closed.
  3. The tube might choke. Flush it properly.
  4. Attend leakage if leakage is present.
  5. HP side and LP side tubes are connected incorrectly in differential type pressure transmitter. Check it and if found incorrect then correct it.
  6. Check calibration if the issue still persists. Do calibration with proper calibration instruments.

>Problem: Pressure transmitter showing high-value

Solutions:

  1. Check the condition of the isolation valves and equalization valves in the manifold. Isolation valves should be open and equalization should be closed.
  2. Check calibration if the issue persists. Do calibration with proper calibration instruments.

>Problem: Pressure transmitter value not stable

Solutions:

  1. Check the condition of the process isolation valve. It might be throttled. Open it if found throttled.
  2. Check the condition of the isolation valves in the manifold. Isolation valves should be open and equalization should be closed.
  3. The tube might be choked or partially choked. Dechoke it and flush it properly.
  4. Attend leakage if leakage is present.

>Problem: Pressure transmitter showing the constant value

Solutions:

  1. Check the condition of the process isolation valve. It might be throttled or closed. Open it if found throttled or closed.
  2. Check the condition of the isolation valves in the manifold. Isolation valves should be open and equalization should be closed.
  3. The tube might be choked. Dechoke it and flush it.
  4. Check calibration if still issue persists. Do calibration with proper calibration instruments.
  5. The transmitter can be in forced condition from the field or DCS/PLC/SCADA. Remove the force.

>Problem: Pressure transmitter incorrect in the field and on DCS/PLC/SCADA

Solutions:

  1. Check the range of field display and on the DCS/PLC/SCADA. It will be different. Configure proper range as per documents.

>Problem: Pressure transmitter display off

Solutions:

  1. The display of the pressure transmitter might be failed. Replace the display and do the necessary configurations.
  2. The pressure transmitter can be in the power of condition. Check the power supply. If the power supply is not present then check in the marshaling cabinet. Check the fuse and barrier in it. Change the fuse or barrier whichever is faulty.
  3. The pressure transmitter might be faulty. Replace it and do the necessary configurations.
